Central Highlands Viet Nam Veterans 1965-1970

This site is dedicated to the men who fought valiantly an unseen enemy in the Central Highlands jungle of Vietnam from 1965 to 1970. This was Corps I territory and the places had strange names like Khe Sanh, Hill 55, My Loc, An Hoa, Arizona Territory, Happy Valley, Wonder Beach, Da Nang, Quang Nam and myriads of Landing Zones [LZ] and Fire Support Bases [FSB]. Back home they were being called Baby Killers, Brutes, Murderers, but they had a purpose and they stuck to their guns. They were 18 and 19 year-old kids being shot to death for $91/month plus hazardous-duty pay. At least 58,220 of them made the long, bittersweet journey home in black body bags for a war they didn't understand and nobody supported. This is the story of one such 19-year-old named Dave Auen and the long silent trip back to Western Pennsylvania. It's also the story of 10's of thousands of his fellow men in uniform who made the same trip Dave did only to s small town in Georgia or Minnesota or Utah or Maine. All afraid but all valiantly stepping into harms way to defend America and their fellow soldiers or Marines or airmen or naval cadre. May God Bless their Memory and give the rest of us Peace and Comfort for the brave men we lost...
